The building was originally built as an overseer's residence at historic Canning Downs.
It was moved to the site where the present Southern Downs Regional Council Administration centre is located and used as pensioner units for a while.
Following the Council's purchase of the property, the building was made available to the Historical Society and relocated to it's present site at the museum complex.
It now houses an hotel, saddlery, office, early store, laundry, and numerous pieces of memorabilia.
A unique feature of the building is the timber structure.
